TIGHT SPACE – Autoterm Air 2D Now Available with 90° Air Outlet!

Autoterm Air 2D - now also available in the TIGHT SPACE housing variant

Good news for everyone struggling with limited space when installing a heater in a camper: from now on you can get the popular Autoterm Air 2D diesel auxiliary heater from us not only in the standard version with a straight warm air outlet, but also in the new TIGHT SPACE variant with a 90° angle.

This variant was developed especially for installation spots where there is no space toward the front. The air outlet, which exits sideways or upward, saves valuable centimeters and enables completely new installation concepts without giving up the proven technology of the Air 2D.

Proven Technology, New Flexibility

Technically everything stays the same: there are no differences between an Air 2D with a straight and an Air 2D with an angled warm air outlet. The TIGHT SPACE variant therefore brings the full performance and reliability of the Autoterm Air 2D, including altitude kit, e-mark approval and so on.

Of course, the heater in the TIGHT SPACE housing is therefore also compatible with all the accessories you know from the standard variant.

When You Need Every Centimeter

With the straight standard version of the warm air outlet, the ducting that follows has to be routed away from the heater in as straight a line as possible to avoid heat build-up and the resulting malfunction. Especially in the first meter, the air duct must not have sharp bends but should be laid in gentle curves.

The new TIGHT SPACE housing version is a real game changer here – the 90° elbow, which can be mounted either facing up or sideways, guides the warm air away from the heater in a sharp curve in a safe manner for the first time. The housing part is specially flow-optimized for this.

Important:
The 90° air outlet must not be replaced with homemade elbows or a piece of normal air duct. The sharply angled warm air outlet only works with the original 90° outlet connector, which is designed accordingly. Otherwise you risk that the airflow is not efficient enough and the heating output suffers – meaning it throttles down due to overheating or even switches off.

What to Keep in Mind When Using the TIGHT SPACE Variant

Even though the 90° elbow of the Tight Space housing is specially flow-optimized, “braking” the outflowing hot air through a sharp angle is always a compromise.

So with the TIGHT SPACE variant (even more so), do not use elaborate warm air ducting to reach every single corner of your vehicle with air duct. Keep the ducting short and simple. First and foremost, make sure through a well-thought-out build with good overall air circulation that you get no cold corners with moisture problems anywhere in the vehicle.

Plan First, Then Decide

The 90° elbow is not the better choice for every space problem – it always depends on your individual build situation.

What matters:

When in doubt, do not simply buy the TIGHT SPACE to be on the safe side, because it is and remains a compromise for special cases. In 99% of all builds you are best served by the standard model.

However, since the two outlet variants cannot be swapped for each other (the 90° elbow cannot be retrofitted to a heater with a standard housing, nor the other way around), you are well advised to think carefully about the type of installation before buying the heater.

UPDATE 04.07.2025 – Conversion Kit Now Available

You already have a heater with a straight standard warm air outlet but would like an angle? The TIGHT SPACE housing for retrofitting is now available!

Note: the type plate is attached to the original housing of your auxiliary heater. If you remove the housing, be sure to keep it. It contains, among other things, the serial number of your heater, which is important for warranty cases, updates etc.! The documents you received with your purchase also contained a copy of the type plate, which you can use instead if you still have it.
